Each desktop or notebook or server is run by an Operating System - the low-level software that communicates with the hardware equipment, including peripheral devices such as a mouse and a printer, together with any apps that are currently installed on your system. Any program input through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the OS. On a server, each and every app runs within the parameters set by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, etcetera. This goes for both standard website scripts and server-side software such as a media server. In case a virtual server is created on a physical one, there can be two different Operating Systems, referred to as guest OS and host OS, so that you will be able to set up a different software environment on a single machine.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

In case you select one of our VPS server plans, you will have as many as 3 different Operating Systems to choose from - CentOS, Debian and Ubuntu. They're all Linux distributions and we offer them instead of offering just a single OS, as the applications that you may want to run on the server could have specific requirements about the software environment. Each of these three has certain pros in terms of the available packages that you may eventually install, but what is common between them is the fact that they're very stable and reliable and have large communities that support them. The hosting Control Panel options for the VPS accounts depend on your Operating System choice, so as to give you more flexibility. When you order the virtual server with one OS and you need a different one later, our technical support team can easily reinstall the VPS with the new one in a matter of minutes. We also offer the option to keep the Operating System on your server up-to-date weekly.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

If you decide to acquire one of our dedicated servers, you shall find three Operating Systems on the registration page because we want to give you a wider choice with regard to the system environment on the server as different applications could have certain requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian feature different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and take advantage of a reliable and safe hosting service. Based on your choice, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always change the Operating System if the one you've selected at first doesn't meet the requirements of the software which you want to run. We can also upgrade the OS routinely in order to keep it as risk-free as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
